Falconstar tossed and turned in his den. He was having the same dream. His
eyes welled up with tears. Stupid twolegs! Why couldn't they just leave us alone?

"Hawkfoot, Prancetail, and Windwhisper, can you come with me on dawn patrol?" he called.

They followed him, leaping out of the trees, gracefully gliding toward the forest floor.
Falconstar decided to visit Shiningwish. He walked across the Branch-of-Balance,
ran by the fresh-kill pile, and, to spare some time, leaped across the Gap-of-Danger.
We walked into the nursery.
Shiningwish looked up at him.
Her kits, up at dawn, were running around outside.

Falconstar's eyes gleamed with relief. He was glad that Shiningwish didn't seem
bitter, or angry that her duty had been temporarily taken away from her.
