Falconstar surveyed the dense layers of forest, searching for any signs of life.
The drought had occured so suddenly, the clans hadn't had time to stock up on
prey and water. Food was scarce. Even in the well stocked woods of WingClan, mice,
voles, and birds were nowhere to be found. Badgers and foxes were attacking much more
frequently now. They were hungry too, and they had families. The Clans would have to
join together to fight the drought and survive with few casualties.
After sensing no sign of prey, Falconstar leaped onto one of the the Strong Trees,
a group of 15 or so trees in which WingClan had claimed as their home.
Carefully balancing on the thick branch, Falconstar quickly walked across to the
Autumn Hole, where the Clan met to discuss the crisis at hand.
"Shiningwish, I hope that you have good news to report,"
Falconstar knew that Shiningwish had led a few cats around a patrol along the outskirts
of their territory, on the WingClan-BurningClan side. The two clans had not been getting
along lately, and talk of a battle at hand scared many of the queens, who feared for their young.

Shiningwish nodded and leapt up into the tree. She shook her pelt vigorously as the rest of her patrol went past. Included in the patrol were Shiningwish's grown kits; Kestrelthorn, Starrypetal, and Dreamfeather. Shiningwish looked on wistfully. "They grow up so fast, Falconstar." As her Clan leader cleared his throat, Shiningwish shook her head to clear it. "Right, sorry. The report. We picked up scents of fox and badger, but they were faint- as if they had not been there in one, maybe two, days."

Falconstar nodded. "Shiningwish, I think that you and a few other cats should continue to
be careful. Make sure that the fox or badger doesn't wander into our territory. If it does, you
should report this back to me."
Shiningwish bowed her head.
"And what happened with BurningClan?" Falconstar's eyes were filled with curiosity.

Shiningwish lifted her head. "There was something strange going on at the border. The scent marks smelt as if they hadn't been marked in days. Starrypetal saw it as odd..." She shook her head. "I hope nothing's wrong..."

Flaconstar knew that this decision would be a tough one. BurrningClan was quickly becoming
bitter with WingClan, saying that WingClan was a group of kittypets, half-breeds, and loners.
Falconstar had in fact been a loner at one time, and he was outraged that they considered
that statement an insult.

His story was like so many others before him. "Well, then, this meeting is over, so you should all
get some food and rest. Shiningwish, why don't you have someone else make the dawn patrol
tomorrow? You had a long trek across the territory."
As he turned to walk away, he saw his two kits, Smallkit and Petalkit, playing with the colorful
leaves that were falling from the trees. He smiled. Kits didn't have a care in the world. They
were easily amused. He wished that his kithood had been that peaceful...

Rainwhisper walked into the Medicine cat den, located in a large, hollowed-out tree, there
were small-shelf-like holes for herbs.
"Ow! Dawnfrost! That hurt!"
Falconstar's other kit, Lightkit, was squirming, as he had a splinter in his paw.
"Just...hold still..... it'll only take.... a sec......"
Dawnflower jerked the splinter out of Lightkit's paw.
"Yeowww!"
Lightkit began sucking his paw, forgetting that it was covered in leaves.
