Okay, so this recommendation here is for the books by my favorite author, Scott Westerfeld, referred to as "Scott-la" by his minions ;D. So here are my comments on each series, and a summary for the first book in each series (I don't want to spoil them!):
UGLIES TRILOGY: no doubt his most popular series, it's not my personal fave by him, but still incredibly amazing. If you read it, you WONT regret it! Oh, by the way, it's technically a trilogy, companion novel, and guide. Read them all!
Uglies is about Tally Youngblood, a 15 year old girl, living in the future, in a city where at your 16th birthday you are given an operation and turned "pretty." The life pretties live is absolutley unflawed: nonstop partying, full of confidence, and just plain happy-filled. It's the dream. But Tally makes a new friend in another rebelliant Ugly named Shay, who doesn't want to be turned pretty. When Shay runs away to a secret refuge for those escaping the surgery called the Smoke, Tally learns a secret about the operation--and it's VERY ugly.
MIDNIGHTERS TRIOLOGY: my favorite of all of his books, this series is absolutley incredible. Full of humor, action, mystery, and even a sprinkle of romance, it has something for everyone, and EVERYTHING for moi! Lol.
Midnighters: The Secret Hour is about Jessica Day, a teenage girl whose life goes from ordinary to insanity when her family moves to Bixby, Oklahoma. In this town, time freezes for a whole secret hour at midnight, every night, for everyone except a small group of teenagers. Jessica soon discovers that she is one fo these special teens, but they have more important things to do than catching up on their homework with their extra hour a day; they're more likely to spend it fighting the dark creatures that live within it.
PEEPS: it's more of a book and companion novel than a trilogy, but whatever. Let's just say it's far more than your average vampire novel, and that you'll never look at them the same way again. I like the first book better than the second, but both are AWESOME (or "FAWESOME"...) and well worth reading.
Peeps is about vampires. But not your usual blood-sucking monsters. "Vampirism" is actually caused by a parasite, spread through physical contact, that turns its carriers into raving, superhuman cannibles. Insert Cal Thompson, a peep carrier who has the parasite, without the worst of the affects. It's his job to hunt down new peeps before they harm anyone and create more of their kind. But is it possible that this terrible diseas is only there to fight something far worse?
So Yesterday: not his best, but I still love it. Stil. worth reading! Okay, so it's pretty much a stand-alone novel, but I'll give you a summary anyway.
summary: Hunter Braq has the teen dream job: to find what's cool, and pass it on into the hands of the industry. He is perfect for the possition of "cool hunter," as he's quiet, and observent. Nothing out of the ordinary seems to happen in his little world. This all changes when he meets Jen, an innovator with a knack for trouble. When Hunter's boss goes MIA, the two are thrown together into the pit of a mystery, trying to unravel the plots of a group of shady people with BIG plans: to mess up and take down the consumerist industry as we know it. But the question isn't HOW Hunter and Jen will stop them; it's if they WANT to.
