Falconstar was puzzled. If the guards didn't see them, how did they get to wood hollow?

Moon has risen CRESCENT-MOON
Falconstar sat in his den, his pelt drooping. He had been like this everyday after the
accident. He attempted to move his leg to his former flexibility.
It would not budge.
He remembered that day:
Falconstar trodded along the path with his mate, Sparrowsong. Suddenly, a pack of
two-legs with metal boxes appeared from the thick, dense woods.
They both ran, trying to escape the two-legs. Falconstar saw his true love, be grabbed,
choked, and thrown into a monster, where he quickly heard a loud bang. He could
see blood inside the monster's belly
He sighed, as he rolled over and tried to get some sleep
badgers.
