Owlstar draped his tail over his friend's shoulders. "Calm down!" he mewed. "He's here; it's dark in here, and his den is sheltered and over there...."

Bearclaw peeked in.
The nest was destroyed.
And Burningeagle had vanished.

He ran into the warriors den.
Brightclaw and Sparrowclaw were out cold. The binds that had held Thrushclaw
were ripped apart.
Bearclaw wondered how they had escaped. Then, he realized something.
Someone among them was a traitor.

A booming voice came from deep in the forest. "Can you prove that you have blinded a cat? Apart from his word that he cannot see? It was all a charade, and you cannot catch me. You will not find me. But I will be updated."
It was Burningeagle.
Thrushclaw was stirring from the corner of the camp. He was bleeding from wounds (above his eye, his ear, his flank, and his muzzle), and breathing heavily. He looked up as Owlstar and Blackbolt came over.
Blackbolt nosed the warrior's fur. "Who did this to you?" she wailed.
Thrushclaw coughed and sputtered out one word. "Burningeagle."

"How did this happen? And aren't YOU supposed to be in trouble for attempting to kill

Bearclaw paced back and forth. He knew that Burningeagle was smarter than the average
clan leader.
Burningeagle could conquer the whole clan with just one plan.

Thrushclaw swallowed. "I only did.....what he told me.....he said....I would.....get a cut....of the ......whole..........valley............" he coughed between words.

Bearclaw quickly dragged the convulsing Thrushclaw back into the medicine den. He quickly ran to
Jadekit's mother.
"I need Jadekit to help me with a patient. Do you mind?"
She shook her head.
Jadekit quickly followed Bearclaw into the den.
"Okay, first, we need to stop the bleeding. Jadekit, can you get me some cobwebs?"
Jadekit rushed to the stock.
"There isn't any more!" She cried.

"Bubblepaw!" Jadekit wailed. "We need cobwebs! Quickly! Please!" Bubblepaw raced off, calling her brother, Squirrelpaw, to help.

After a few moments, Bubblepaw and Squirrelpaw returned, each carrying a pawful of cobwebs.
"Okay, thank you guys." Bearclaw quickly laid the cobweb over the wound.
"Jadekit, maybe you should use that technique that you showed us. You know, the one where
you used the rock to hold down the cobwebs?"

BIC:// Jadekit nodded and briskly set to work.
Meanwhile, Owlstar had leapt onto the HighBranch, and began to call the Clan together. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the HighBranch for a Clan meeting!" His summons rang out, and soon the whole Clan was gathered in the clearing. Snowcloud's eyes shone with pride.
"Today we give three Clan kits their apprentice names. Step forward," he told Woodkit, Silverkit and Jadekit. "Bearclaw, you are the new medicine cat of ShimmerClan, but you are experienced beyond your moons. You will be mentor to Jadepaw. Jadepaw," he addressed the silver and brown she-cat. "Is it your wish to enter the mysteries of a medicine cat, and be Bearclaw's apprentice?"
"It is: more than anything." Jadepaw touched noses with her mentor, her green-brown eyes shining.
"Forestheart, you have been through hardships and division in loyalty, but you have skill and wit. I hope you will pass on all of your skills to Woodpaw. Moonpoppy, you have spirit and are brave and wise. I know you will pass on all you know to Silverpaw." The new apprentices touched noses to their mentors.
Springkit, Flutterkit and Flarekit raced up to Woodpaw and Silverpaw. "You're so LUCKY! I can't wait until I'm an apprentice!" Flutterkit bounced at the new apprentices' paws.

Bearclaw beamed. He was so proud of Jadepaw (cool! promotion!) for creating new ways
to heal cats. Thanks to her, Thrushclaw was actually in stable condition.
"Don't forget Jadepaw, tomorrow is the day that the medicine cats and their apprentices go
to the MoonPit to speak with StarClan. We should get ready to go."
He turned, beckoning Jadepaw to follow.

BIC:// Jadepaw nodded. Silverpaw padded up to her sister. "It'll be weird not sharing a den with you, Jadepaw," she mewed awkwardly. "But you'll be a great medicine cat, with Bearclaw to guide you..." Silverpaw touched her nose to her sister's flank. "Good luck."
